Approvals in California
California is its own approval path
A booth that is straightforward to permit in another state is not automatically straightforward here. Six things make California its own case, and all six are easier to handle before the equipment is ordered than after.
Cal/OSHA, not federal OSHA
California runs its own occupational safety program under a state plan. It adopts the federal baseline and adds to it, so a spray finishing operation here answers to Cal/OSHA rather than to federal OSHA directly.
Title 24, the state's own codes
California writes its building and fire codes into Title 24, amending the international codes rather than adopting them unchanged. Your local building and fire officials enforce that state edition plus anything the city or county adds on top.
Air permits come from your district
There is no single statewide air permit. California is divided into local air districts, and the one you sit in sets the rules for coating operations and issues the permit. South Coast, Bay Area, San Joaquin Valley, Sacramento Metro, San Diego County, and Mojave Desert each run their own process, and what they ask for is not identical.
Seismic anchorage is routine here
Equipment anchorage is a normal part of a California installation rather than an unusual request. Tell us early if your project needs anchorage details for submittal and we will confirm in writing what we can supply and what your engineer of record has to produce.
NFPA 33 and NFPA 86 still apply
The spray application and oven standards sit underneath all of the above. Our systems are ETL Listed by Intertek and built to NFPA 33 and NFPA 86 standards, which gives a California reviewer a recognised basis to work from.

Everything above is the shape of the process, not a determination. The authority having jurisdiction for your site decides which editions apply and what your project needs. Identify them before you order equipment, not after it arrives.
